PhotoFolio vs SquareSpace: We Never Sold Out
In October 2024 Squarespace was bought by a private equity firm called Permira and they they borrowed a lot of money to do it.
The debt financing included a $2.3 billion term loan, a $300 million delayed draw loan and a $250 million revolving credit facility.
That loan gets paid back by Squarespace customers. There’s no other place for the money to come from.
This is how the private equity playbook works: buy the company with borrowed money, raise prices, cut costs, sell it in a few years.
PhotoFolio is different. We’ve been around for nearly 20 years. We have no private equity owners and no billion-dollar loan to pay off. We’re owned by the people who build the software and answer your emails.
If you’re a photographer you’ll know we’ve consistently given back to the community thought aphotoeditor.
